UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT IRVINE ENHANCES CAMPUS RECREATION CENTER

Oct 07, 2009

Throughout California universities campus recreational sport facilities and programs play a vital role in the life of a UC student. To balance their stressful academic lives, UC campuses such as UC Irvine are now promoting a healthier lifestyle by offering access to a wide variety of campus recreation programs such as: intramural and club sports, classes and clinics, outdoor adventures and, most of all, fitness and wellness.

The Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) at UC Irvine is a complete state-of-the-art sports and fitness facility. With the recent expansion, the ARC now features 20,000 square feet of strength and cardio space, which includes two full installs of the ROC-IT selectorized line, HD selectorized and CF freeweights. In addition, there are three basketball courts, a rounded corner multi-use gym, an elevated running track, three racquetball courts, a rock-climbing wall, lap and leisure pool, exercise testing, massage, five multipurpose rooms, daycare, and a demonstration kitchen and classroom.

Registered students have full access to the facility and are not required to pay any additional membership fee, while faculty, staff, alumni, and UCI affiliates are welcome to purchase ARC memberships.

“People have stated that they are finding themselves incorporating more strength training in their programs because the Roc-It pieces are “fun” and “they love them”. We also are seeing more usage of the Roc-It pieces that we set up for a circuit workout on the second floor. Even those that are a little skeptical, they become believers after my personal trainers show them how the ROC-IT pieces work. One by one we are turning the skeptics into believers and Hoist enthusiast.” - Courtney Burkes, Director of Fitness and Wellness at University of California, Irvine
